Mold found behind a drawer in bathroom vanity

Sometimes you can have water damage slowly and silently affecting your home right under your nose.  It is so small, that another kind of damage is the only way you realize there may be a problem.  This photo is of mold caused by a slow bathroom water leak behind a vanity.  The customer had no idea what had been growing behind her make-up drawer until a house fire caused soot clean-up throughout her home and our technicians spotted the damage.

What do you do if your General Contractor Discovers Mold?

This photo is containment that has been set up after a general contractor discovered a substantial amount of mold in the wall cavity.  Once mold has been disturbed it sporulates and spreads itself throughout your home.  Luckily this GM alerted the homeowner and we were able to contain the wall and the room itself until mold remediation could be completed.

If you spot mold during a remodel, stop, and call SERVPRO!

Remodeling your home or business can be time consuming and expensive, but the reward at the end of the day is fantastic.  You also have to plan for the unforeseen disasters and know what to do.  This photo is of a restaurant that sat vacant for months before being remodeled.  As the construction crew was in the process of remodeling they found mold and called in SERVPRO of Alachua County West.  They knew this could stop the potential for contamination of unaffected areas, therefore minimizing the spread throughout the new building materials.

Make sure you mold is remediated correctly.

Mold remediation can be complex.  Without the proper testing, it can also be hard to remediate properly.  The spores which spread mold become more prominent as you disturb it and if not remediated properly can be spread to unaffected areas of your home.  This picture is an example of proper containment with a decon chamber to stop the spread of spores as remediation is completed.

Just another example of why you should have your AC serviced annually.

Most of us Floridians know the importance of Air conditioning in Florida.  Not only does it keep us comfortable in the warm months, but it also keeps the humidity in our homes under control.  This is very important when it comes to the ability for mold to form in our home.  Many people do not realize that the AC unit itself can cause the conditions to be perfect for mold growth if not properly installed and maintained.  This is became apparent to one customer, as shown in this photo.  They had not had their unit serviced in many years and the pan beneath had developed a leak which slowly led to high moisture levels in the closet which affected surrounding walls as well.  The heat from the working unit in the closet also aided the mold in its growth.  If they had their unit regularly serviced, the damage could have been a lot less.

Remodeling woes - Mold.

Whether it be your home or business, remodeling can be exiting, and sometimes scary.  The process of making your home or office new again can sometimes reveal issues you did not realize you had, such as mold.  When beginning the process of remodeling, prepare for disaster by having SERVPRO of Alachua County West's number handy in the case of emergency, such as this photo of mold discovered during a business remodel.
